About the role
Job Purpose
The Estimation & Quantity (E&Q) role is responsible for accurate material take-offs, Bill of Quantities (BOQ) preparation, costing, and quantity control across all high-end custom furniture projects. The candidate will ensure exact material measurement from drawings to optimize factory yield, minimize scrap, and keep production costs aligned with project budgets.
Key Responsibilities
1.) Quantity Take-Off & Material Calculations
Drawing & BOQ Analysis: Thoroughly review approved architectural, interior design, and shop drawings to extract exact structural, joinery, and finishing details.
Material Take-Offs: Calculate precise quantities for all raw materials required in custom furniture, including solid wood, engineered boards (MDF, Plywood, Particle Board), veneers, laminates, fabrics/leathers, glass, metals, and hardware.
Wastage & Yield Optimization: Calculate standard cutting charts, panel optimization, and allowable wastage percentages to ensure maximum material utilization during manufacturing.
2.) Estimation & Cost Analysis
Detailed Costing: Prepare comprehensive item-wise cost estimates and BOQs for loose furniture, modular units, and fixed interior fit-outs.
Hardware & Fitting Estimates: Quantify functional and decorative hardware requirements (hinges, runners, handles, joinery fittings) using catalogs from brands like Hafele, Hettich, Blum, etc.Rate Analysis: Maintain an up-to-date rate database for materials, surface treatments (PU polish, lacquers, veneers), edge banding, labor, and machine operation costs.
Value Engineering: Suggest practical material substitutions or design tweaks to optimize costs while preserving structural integrity and design intent.
3.) Production & Inventory Coordination
Requisition Support: Pass precise Bill of Materials (BOM) to the Purchase and Stores teams to ensure timely procurement without overstocking or shortfalls.
Variance Tracking: Compare estimated material quantities against actual shop-floor consumption to identify variances, track scrap, and refine future estimation models.
What we expect
Technical Expertise
In-depth understanding of woodworking materials, veneer matching, hardware fittings, and surface finishes.
Strong skills in reading and interpreting detailed technical shop drawings.
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (for quantity sheets, BOQs, and costing formulas) and basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
Direct experience in quantity estimation and costing within furniture manufacturing, high-end interior fit-outs, or joinery workshops.
