Position Summary
The E&Q Manager leads all pre-production material calculations, quantity take-offs, and pre-manufacturing costing across loose furniture, fixed joinery, and luxury interior products made at the Daman plant. The core focus of this role is to calculate exact raw material requirements—solid wood, veneers, board sheets, metals, fabrics, hardware, and finishes—before production begins. By establishing accurate material nesting, cut lists, and allowance benchmarks prior to shop-floor release, this role prevents material shortages, eliminates excess stock, and locks in product margins.
Key Responsibilities & KRAs
Pre-Production Quantity Take-Offs & BOQs
Detailed Material Calculations: Analyse CAD designs, technical drawings, and 3D renders to calculate precise quantities of solid wood, veneers, plywood, MDF, metal frameworks, hardware, and upholstery before job cards are issued to the shop floor.
- Pre-Manufacturing BOQs: Prepare comprehensive Bill of Quantities (BOQs) and itemized material requirement lists for custom luxury furniture and standard production runs.
- Pre-Production Cost Models: Build standard pre-manufacturing cost sheets factoring in direct material volumes, expected wastage margins, special hardware, and finishing consumables.
Pre-Cut Yield Optimization & Nesting Analysis
- Nesting & Cutting Plan Reviews: Work with the CAD/PPC team prior to raw material cutting to review nesting software outputs and cut plans for maximum yield on wood boards, leather, and fabric rolls.
- Wastage & Trim-Loss Norms: Set realistic, tight material wastage allowances and trim-loss standards across different raw material categories before releasing materials from the store.
- Value Engineering (Pre-Run): Review joinery methods and sheet layouts in the planning stage to suggest material substitutions or size optimizations that reduce scrap without compromising luxury quality.
Raw Material Planning & Procurement Alignment
- BOM Verification: Validate the Bill of Materials (BOM) against prototype approvals to ensure 100% material clarity before purchasing or factory release.
- Rate Analysis & Sub-Assembly Costing: Calculate precise pre-procurement target rates for custom hardware, specialty veneers, lacquers, and outsourced sub-assemblies.
Pre-Production Budget & Variance Controls
- Baseline Budget Setup: Establish the official pre-production material baseline budget for every project and bespoke order.
- Design Modification Impact: Calculate instant material and cost implications whenever design or material specs change prior to manufacturing.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Pre-Production Calculation Accuracy: Variance between pre-calculated material allowances and actual shop-floor consumption kept within tight limits (e.g., ±2%).
Pre-Cut Yield Maximization: High material utilization percentage achieved through pre-production nesting and cut-plan approvals.
Turnaround Time (TAT): Fast release of accurate pre-production BOQs and BOM validations to keep factory procurement on schedule.
Pre-Production Value Engineering: Documented raw material cost savings achieved during the pre-manufacturing planning stage.
Qualifications & Key Requirements
- Education: Degree/Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Wood Technology, Mechanical/Civil Engineering, or Interior Architecture.
- Experience: 3-6 Years specializing in quantity estimation, pre-production material take-offs, and costing within a furniture factory, joinery plant, or luxury interior manufacturing unit.

- Domain Expertise: Thorough understanding of solid wood, veneers, engineered boards, hardware systems (Hettich, Hafele ,Sugatsune), upholstery textiles, and surface finishes (PU, Polyester, Lacquer).
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Excel-based costing models, AutoCAD, nesting/cutting optimization software, and ERP systems (SAP/custom manufacturing software).
